Continuing a long-standing relationship with Brisbane-based architectural firm Richards & Spence – Astra Walker was the first choice for the retro-futuristic Richards & Spence designed Sushi Room restaurant. A unique project required a unique approach with our Sensor collection utilised in a way not commonly found in commercial and hospitality tapware. Astra Walker’s on-going commitment to flexibility, strong working relationships and long-term outcomes ensured that hands-free tapware solutions were developed to meet the range of applications within this architecturally driven interior.

The newly renovated space within The Calile Hotel, diverges significantly from well-established Calile design aesthetic with references leaning heavily towards a nostalgic abstraction of Japanese mid-century pop culture. Materiality, texture, light and shadow, where carefully considered with Richards & Spence likening the design to a type of 60’s neo-futurism.

Astra Walker’s flexible in finish options for DDA products allowed for continuity of this neo-futurist style to be carried through all areas of the venue. All products were specified in Astra Walker’s Brushed Platinum finish — constructed from a durable nickel base that is brushed back, giving a similar tone and lustre to stainless steel.
