Lead Free Compliance

Lead‑free by design

As of 1 May 2026, new lead‑free requirements for plumbing products used in drinking water have been introduced across Australia and New Zealand.
You can choose Astra Walker with confidence, knowing our products meet the new leadfree requirements

Our Approach
We transitioned to lead‑free copper alloys (≤0.25% lead) ahead of the national deadline, ensuring our products meet current and future regulatory standards.
All applicable products are supported by:

  • Updated WaterMark certification
  • Revised Scope of Use documentation
  • Clear lead‑free product identification

What This Means
Lead‑free requirements apply to products that deliver water for human consumption, including basin mixers, kitchen mixers, pot fillers, and tapware connected to drinking water.
Products not used for drinking water (such as showers, bath outlets and accessories) are not affected.

Compliance by Region
-Victoria & New Zealand: Lead‑free products are required for all installations from 1 May 2026.

-All other Australian states: A transition period applies, with full compliance required by 1 May 2028.

Identifying Lead‑Free Products
Look for the lead‑free WaterMark mark, updated packaging and documentation, and product specifications confirming compliance. If a product is not identified as lead‑free, it should not be used for drinking water applications.

Existing Stock
Previously manufactured products remain safe and certified and can still be installed in most Australian states during the transition period. However, they are not permitted for new installations in Victoria or New Zealand from 1 May 2026.

Our Commitment
Astra Walker has taken a proactive approach to ensure a seamless transition to lead‑free compliance, giving customers, specifiers and installers confidence in every product.
